Surely freedom of speech is a right in liberaldemocracy?... #JeSuisCharlie

12 cartoonists and journalists for the french satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo were murdered on

Michael Harris, writer for The Independent wrote: "In a globalised world, where ideas can be distributed from Paris to Fallujah in real-time, we can no longer protect people from ideas they do not like, even if we wanted to. We cannot but help insult the religious. Our way of life is an insult. Should gay couples not Instagram their weddings in case it insults those wed to religious orthodoxy? Should atheists hold their tongue to avoid insulting religious prophets? Do I have to be polite to the English Defence League for the vile Al Muhajiroun? Take a step back. There is no way you can avoid offending those who wish to develop a global caliphate.

That's some food for thought... Being part of the younger generation I could not agree more! This event will contribute a huge amount to the upheaval that journalism is currently undergoing. Whether more ethical challenges will emerge for journalists worldwide I have yet to decide...
Even though I am angered by the violent attacks these Islamic extremists have carried out I do not feel that vilifying all is Islam is the right way to go about it.

The written word is arguably one of the most powerful tools, however political satire

For all young readers we must motivate ourselves to participate in this political debate through all social platforms. What we say is important, whether we agree to disagree its all part

The first...

Let me introduce myself. My name is Bella, I'm aged 17 was born in Australia but moved to a small Island off the coast of Spain called Mallorca when I was 1. Having lived in Mallorca my whole life I am grateful to say that I am fluent in both Spanish and English and have had the luxury of living two very different cultures. I moved to England in September 2013 in order to do my A/levels at Hurtwood House Boarding school. My aim in life is to become a Journalist and am into both environmental and political journalism. I have created this blog with the hope that I will be able to motivate young people like myself with inquisitive natures to look into what is going in the world and create their own views and perspective on world politics!
